David Siljat

For three years I've been a resident of Mantorp, south of Linköping in the middle of Sweden. This is where I keep my workshop where I build and repair nyckelharpas. I also repair other instruments upon request. I sing swedish folk songs, play three different kinds of nyckelharpa and fiddle. I'm available for concerts and dance music as well as wedding, party, funeral music etc. I have experience in holding song- and instrument workshops and do so upon request. See Lessons and Contact.

2009-2010 I attended the one year nyckelharpa playing course at Eric Sahlström Institutet in Tobo, Uppland, Sweden. After completing the course I moved to Linköping, Östergötland, Sweden from where I attended a Eric Sahlström Institutet's two year distance course in nyckelharpa building where I learned how to build historical nyckelharpas and modern three rowed nyckelharpas. In parallel I attended the program Slöjd, hantverk och formgivning (handicrafts, crafts and shaping) at Linköping's University 2010-2013 where I focused on instrument making. During this education I gave making hurdy gurdies, a swedish model called "Groddalira", a try and I also tried my hand at bag pipe making, but my main focus were the nyckelharpas. This is where the idea for my company Bordunbyggaren (drone maker) took shape. I keep striving towards my ambition to build and sell hurdy gurdies, bag pipes and nyckelharpas, but at the current time my production is focused on nyckelharpas.
